World of Warcraft is coming up on its 4th anniversary in November and one of the biggest texture alignment issues I’ve experienced in any game has still gone unfixed.
This is the entrance to Stormwind. These wooden beams appear in other areas of the game -properly aligned. How can a texture misalignment of this magnitude go unaddressed for so long? The lighting bug in the entrance of the Booty Bay Inn was fixed months ago (finally) but this huge mistake is still around.
WHY?

First time ever posting on Romero’s site. Heh. Anyways fear not. Blizzard will be doing graphical overhauls as a result of Wrath being released soon. Good chance they might fix this error. Damn how the flip did I not notice that error? *beats self over the head with a Gnome*Next time I am in game I gotta take a gander.
Strange, it’s easy to correct – Blizzard are lazy?
PS. Please Romero, write more posts
Cheers
Hal
It doesn’t look like a texture misalignment issue as much as the wooden beams don’t look to be the same anyways.
This would annoy you, and I can understand why.
I could list at least 10 MMOs, where I have seen much wors graphic glitches than this. And I don’t only talk about not fitting textures. For example Vanguard is a big mess in it’s whole.
And by the way, YOU are not the one, who should criticize other games, which only have such minor glitches (and I say that being a wow hater)
LMAO
Dude that is too funny.
Gotta love a designer’s eye…
John, I bet you’re tortured playing some games, right?
Can’t get fully immersed because little things like that just keep jumping out at you, etc?
Every designer is guilty of making some errors but most games only get a patch or two.
WoW is a game that takes in over $1 billion a year and is seen continuously, daily, by millions of people. It’s patched on a regular basis.
There is no excuse for a texture misalignment of this magnitude.
Well… it’s all part of Blizzard’s “we dont give a sh*t” policy.
As long as people play it – who cares?
That’s how things work at Blizzard.
John,
I worked in Blizzard QA for about 6 months, and I have an answer for you– it’s legacy content and although this is in a fairly prominent spot, it’s still not something that most people will notice or care about, and they’ve always got bigger fish to fry. There are PLENTY of sloppy instances like this throughout the game, but it’s the general policy in QA to leave legacy map issues alone unless it could lead to some sort of exploit. Remember that small changes to the map could result in large new downloads when a patch comes out.
That’s not to say I don’t personally think it should be fixed, it’s just not where Blizzard wants to direct their resources.
Cheers,
Matt

hahaha
Funny, I’ve never even noticed it before. Now, it’s going to just glare out at me all the time.
Thanks a lot John!
In a game of this magnitude I don’t see how one little graphic error is a big deal.
PS I don’t play wow.
Well I am a (graphic) designer and everytime i see something visual in my mind i am analysing it, and most of the time commenting on it (most ppl hate it when i do that, haha).
So i recognise and totally understand your suffering towards seeing things like this.
However, as a designer you NEED to be able to eliminate and reason which part is best to get the most attention. Its impossible to make everything perfect.
WOW is a huge game with a massive amount of players. Requires lots and lots of work and maintainance, and honnestly I dont think most ‘regular’ players care much about a badly aligned texture on some wooden beams, if they even notice it at all.
I wouldnt put it on top of my list (seen from the gamer’s point of vieuw).
Even if the game is getting quite old …
Its by far the biggest mmpog.
It gets adjusted constantly and thus new bugs are getting introduces also constantly.
Theres much more work needed to be done in more important areas.
I have to admit though, if i were the texturing guy at blizzard, id go nuts on this too, but i can fully understand someone else, who is in command, doesnt find this so important.
