you know what’s funny? random IMs from people i don’t know – they always entertain. I figured it would be fun to share some of these with you.
At the end of this one the person says “Have fun” which, unbeknownst to him, is a game i made up and a lot of us here at Slipgate Ironworks play it everyday. So i say “good one” because he “won” the Have Fun game.

Oh wow, that’s hilarious.
Incidentally John, how is Doom II coming along? I’ve been living in a cave for the past decade or so…
Thanks for sharing this – most amusing.
Did you hear about that new hardware called 3dfx Voodoo, it’s supposed to bring colored lighting to Quake 2.
Give the guy a break will you… those were the times when people still had the power to write history, and those who dared actually did.
Man if I could jump back to the late 80s I wouldn’t think twice about it.
Hey John. I heard you works on Doom II. Please insert some secret wolfenstein levels with hans as boss.
When’s the next issue of Softdisk?
it’s 2008… XD
Yep, it’s good to see that idiocy is alive and well on the Internet
A moron? On the Internet? Incredible!
A good one you pulled on him btw, though he’ll never know
Hey “Tony”, it’s called living where the living’s good. If the early 90s were where it was at for this chap, let him be will you!
It’s 2009 already
I think I’ve asked John a few random things on ICQ before (years ago I guess). I remember asking him if he knew Richard Gray aka “Levelord”. He said, “sure”. I asked if he was he was the party animal / swaggering pirate with a lady on each arm that the online pictures seem to indicate. John said, “No, he’s always working”. I think my dream of becoming a level designer died right there. Damn you John Romero… Damn you!
wowow…jump back to last 90s..uumm~I have still remember the first time hold DOOM when I play.man…that was really give me a shock…
Thank GOD let me grew up with DOOM.
Check EDGE doom port. It rocks on Linux!
lol
well then … “Have fun” John!
Hi John.
My name is David Favela.
I´m currently studying at “ITESM
University” in Mexico. I live in Mazatlan, a beautiful touristic port where people are very warm.
I’m glad to inform you about our annual event “El Simposio Internacional de Sistemas de Información (www.elsimposio.com)” which will take place next March’s 19, 20, 21. We’ve had the honor of receiving many renown speakers.
I’d like to cordially
invite you to participate as a speaker, being an important figure in the Game development subject. We’re expecting about 400 participants which will be mostly students of the Information Technologies areas.
I’ve had the oportunity to get in touch with Andre Lamothe and you were referred to me by him, telling me you would be a very good speaker.
Of course we’d gladly take care of all expenses (plane tickets, transport in the city, food and hotel) including entertainment in the city (also
parties).
Found this on 2/18 thought it was basically amazing.

On the front page of msn, check it out.
Runner up to a game that is no push over and ahead of MANY games that are great, goes to show that quite a few people liked doom.
Talking about funny things, I come with the Top Important Websites from Romania in the eyes of Google here:

Your site came in 10th place because you are using .ro domain.
Welcome to Romania
Hey John, while you’re looking for those recordings for Untamed, do you think you could get the Daikatana team together and have them sign over their souls so Daikatana can be released for free and the modified Quake II engine be GPL’d? I’ve been dying to play it on NeXTSTEP!
Seriously though, that would be nice.
LoL!
Thanks for Sharing this Romero <:
Alfonso John Romero, why don’t you use your ICQ anymore?
lol nice!
Well, I guess not everyone follows the who-and-where of game development that closely.
That said… forget the original sounds from those games.. I wanna hear recordings of the odd alien bleeps and blips Tom Hall and you used to make at each other
.
There’s gotta be recordings of them *somewhere*.
I’m so sorry the doom community still bothers you, John. We were looking for the old sounds due to a hi-res doom sound pack compiled by a guy with access to the stock sound libraries. We’re missing about 20 or so, and we suspect those are the ones bobby made up just for doom. Wherever those are, Only you might know. Or Bobby. If we could get in contact with him.
funny thing is when i was a kid (cant remember how old but not old enough to drive) i randomly emailed you and asked if me and my cousin could come to the id offices. i never though i would get a reply but you did finally reply and said “definitely, come on!” or something like that.
so like a week or two later we did. it was awesome. you guys were just finishing up quake 1 at the time and you had just moved into your new offices at the time.
when we showed up it was obvious you forgot we were coming but you were awesome about it and showed us around. you even invited us to play quake but unfortunately for me and my cuz, my dad definitely didnt dig video games and was in a rush to get out of the offices.
its a rad memory and you sir, are rad as well.
Hey John! That’s fucking hilarious.
“I’ll just run into the other room and ask Carmack and Bobby Prince if they still have them…”
“Awesome!”
Fucking hilarious! LOL “Uh… its 2008!”
Oh, btw, John, I loved your game on the Big Blue Disk too, you still have that?
j/k
Wow, DooM’ers still contacting you, huh? Even though that guy must be a fan boy, i bet he’s like the rest. They ALL want you back in the DooM Community. Great chat btw, its my background
If anything, i would’ve sent the same responses, handled.
Great pic, thanks for posting! =)
Oh wow, some people have no idea!
