I used to want to cry watching old pictures of my family and what we used to look like and we were and i remmember nostalgia was something i did really not like to experiene because it would not give me joy but sadness.

what do you have to say about your relationship with nostalgia.

however i guess i refer to mamories that are good for memories and not nostalgy.

Nostalgia is my drug. I was a teen in the 90′s and during that decade life was just pure bliss back then. During this last decade I’ve been doing everything I can to bring back memories and what it felt like back then. I listen to music from then, watch movies from then, watch tv shows from then, play games from then, read magazines and comics from then,.. look up videos from back then on YouTube…

I have no interest in ANYTHING unless it has nostalgic value for me. If it doesn’t have some connection to my teens in the 90′s I just don’t care.

2000 was the last good year of my life where I liked being alive and was optimistic and had a future to look forward to. Also it was the last year where everything was “okay”. No huge crisis all the damn time and no worries. Half of it had to do with simply being a teen and how you’re always discovering new things and how you have a future ahead of you. It’s also half about the world around you. I guess you had to be a teen in the 90′s in order to realize how EVERYTHING was better. From 2001 untill now everything has been in decline and it’s like holding your breath at the bottom of a lake and you can’t swim up.

Usually I can manage to put myself into a nostalgia “trance” where I can vividly remember and feel what I was feeling back then. I do everything I can to induce those trances. It basically results in a wave of calm happiness. It can backfire If I end up thinking about how much worse it it now and that it’ll never be good again. But usually I just try to stay in the happy calm as long as I can before I’m forced to wake back up into the current reality.

The way things are now I don’t even care if I were to die. So yeah,.. for me nostalgia is all I’ve got.

the 90′s = awesome, great, happy fun
now= depressing, crappy, dead, sucks

Yeah, I’ve been down the ol’ 90s nostalgia trip myself. Also found recent life to be very difficult and went back to watch series like Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes to somehow pretend I’m back in the 70s(wait, I wasn’t around then!) and 80s…

The thing is though, I’m actually starting to appreciate what I have now that I didn’t back then. The reality is, back in those days it was mostly miserable, but its so easy to remember the good times than the bad. So, in some ways we think it was better…

At the grand old age of 30, I am now the programmer and artist I’ve always wanted to be. I don’t worry so much about the day job(don’t sweat the small stuff) and just settling down and enjoying life.

You do realise that unless you stop looking back you won’t achieve this again, right?

Sadly, looking back is the only thing that brings me moments of happiness. Unless the “remedy” is to erase my memories so that I can’t compare life now to life then.

my heart TRUELLY goes to all of you because i do not think very differently.

However (please)

I HAVE TO SAY THAT

i started this thread in hope to share things related to nostalgia

BUT I ASK YOU to limit the negative things yhou share , because it helps ot be positive in life.

I am very happy people are coming to my topic but i mean nostalgic tears should be something beutifull that we experience not just depressing.

please lighten up this place and lets sahre good things and try to encourage each other forward in life by positivity so we can survive.

If the post becomes so negative and continues like this i do not want to have anything with it, this is a fan site or whatever and not a place to complain.
I know we have to complain sometimes but now it is so much already.

hmm… what happened to the old site?? I can’t find my posts from the old forum sad.

I love nostalgia of the 90s games. I’m curious why life is so bad now for nostalgia tears. I still play doom a lot. It is just the most fun game. Other games don’t have the balance of art and gameplay that doom manages, and so don’t have the same replay value that doom has. I still play commander keen from time to time as well. love all those games.

Making maps for doom is still fun.

@ HellKing.

Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be. Think about those times which you look fondly back on. Did you at the time think you’d remember it the way you do? Probably not. whats important is MAKING a life to be nostalgic about.

Yes, for me I do look back whistfully to the 80′s and up to 95/96 which I finished highschool. When I used to go home after school and play games, or connect to BBS’s via modem, watch TV or just enjoy the nearby creek and quarry.

I’m on this board because some of the things I look back on, John Romero helped make possible. iD games were for me, above all others because of the people who made them. They made games an artform, cohesive and enthralling.

I do occassionally pull out the old music from the 90′s, enjoy playing those old games. I’m a bit of a hoarder, so I throw little out.

But in the end, its more important to see life as a journey, as a collection of periods you’ll want to go back to. It’s great to look back, to relive, but being in the moment is also important.

Yes borax man you sound like a sexual condom but anyway

L O L

i agree that what we create today we can look back and enjoy

there is a saying in persian . nesvol esshg vasvol eshg

mean half love can be as good as full love.

means also like half experience in the memories are like full experiences of being there.
